FireSmart Video |
During the 2020 AGM, residents approved the Association to fund 100% to conduct a perimeter treatment of the privately-owned lands surrounding our neighbourhood to reduce forest fuels and provide a substantial level of protection from wildfire. A treatment plan was developed by Summit Valley Contracting which specializes in developing and implementing mitigation plans to reduce wildfire risks to communities. Six blocks of land were identified to reduce forest fuels to the FireSmart standard, extending 100 metres from the rear property lines of the community. The 8-minute video (click on photo link below) documents four of those blocks of land being treated; the remaining two additional blocks are to be done in the future. FireSmart Canada Video Featuring CastleRock |
Hello CastlleRock Residents.
FireSmart Canada featured CastleRock Estates in a video filmed in our community last summer. CastleRock was chosen due to the robust FireSmart program that we have implemented within our community.
This video is getting national exposure. We have been showcased throughout Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, as well as via the FireSmart Canada website.
The other piece of good news is that we have requalified as a FireSmart Neighbourhood for 2020. The qualification process is retroactive so it is always for the past year. This is because to qualify, criteria must be met in the previous year such as community hourly work requirements and hosting FireSmart events within the community.
Please click on the link below where the video has been posted.

CastleRock Median Fireproofing Project |
The CastleRock Estates Association recently completed another FireSmart-related project in our FireSmart Canada Recognized Neighbourhood in order to mitigate potential wildfires close to many homes and properties: The CastleRock Estates' Median FireProofing Project was undertaken during spring of 2022 and was documented by video (Jaybird Media, Invermere). The purpose of the project was to fireproof the six boulevards in the community by applying a layer of screened river rock on top of the existing bark mulch. Why was this done? What primarily ignites homes is not direct flames but showering embers. This project will help avoid potential ember showers from wildfire approaching or ember showers landing onto the boulevard's spruce trees (combustible vegetation). In addition, the main roads in CastleRock are critical to a safe and orderly evacuation of the community in case of a wildfire.
